The Van Buren Township Board of Trustees held two public hearings at their Tuesday night regular scheduled board meeting.

One was to consider the proposed drinking water revolving fund project.
"The drinking water revolving fund is a low interest loan program offered through the State of Michigan," engineer David Nummer said.
A drinking water system improvement plan has been developed that could eventually include the addition of 22,780 feet of new water main.
The new water main will replace approximately 3,670 feet of already existing water main plus the addition of approximately 22,780 feet as well as the installation of a new meter pit connection to the Detroit Water and Sewerage System.
This proposed project also will include the construction of a new 2 million gallon water tower.
The water tower could potentially be built on the township's northwest side.
"These improvements will provide for more adequate flows and pressure of water thoughout the system," Nummer said, "as well as improving the reliability of
the drinking water system as a whole."
Tuesday night's public hearing was a chance to accept comments from the public on the proposed project and include those public comments in the project plan application to be sent to the State of Michigan.
The second public hearing, which later included in the regular agenda, was to consider a special land use for Soave Landscaping to develop an outdoor landscape storage yard on a 5.006 acre site located on the east side of Beck Road south of Tyler Road.
Soave Landscaping proposed to develop an outdoor landscape storage yard on the site that is zoned M-1 (light industrial) and is surrounded by M-1 zoned land.
The property is just south of the Eagles Aerie, across from Willow run Airport and surrounded by vacant land.
The outdoor storage of building and contracting equipment and supplies is permitted in the M-1 district following special land use approval under township Section 15.03d of the Township Zoning Ordinance.
Special land use requires a recommendation by the planning commission and a vote by the Board of Trustees.
The Van Buren Twp. Board of Trustees did approve the proposal with special consideration given to the action.
Trustees Jeff Jahr and Walt Rochowiak were concerned over the noise of back loaders- the beeping the vehicles make when backing up- and the amount of dust that could be thrown.
Dan Swallow, the deputy director of planning and economic development, assured the board the site would only be used for storage.
Jahr and Rochowiak also wanted to ensure work hours would not begin before 6 a.m..
The Van Buren Twp. Board of Trustees meet the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Van Buren Twp. Hall, 46425 Tyler Road.
