The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) has started working on a large water main improvement project in Van Buren Township, specifically along Ecorse Road from Michigan Avenue to Beck Road, south on Beck Road to Tyler Road, and eventually the entire length of Tyler Road east to Hannan Road.

This project is the addition of a new 42-inch water transmission main that will supply water to the Van Buren Township water system, as well as to other communities downstream.
This new water main will parallel an existing 42-inch water transmission main, thereby providing a redundant and more reliable source of water for our community.
This project will be disruptive to the flow of traffic while it is in progress, in fact some roads may be completely closed at certain times during the course of the project.
The water main pipe is large, the equipment is large, and the water main is being placed directly under Tyler Road.
This will be a lengthy project, with the portion along Ecorse Road, Beck Road, and Tyler Road to Belleville Road to continue through June 2008.
As more information becomes available regarding the schedule, we will make continued updates.
We ask for everyone to be patient while the work continues, and when the work is complete, there will be a better, more reliable water supply to Van Buren Township water customers and citizens.
