Caleb Kennedy got the win on the mound pitching six innings and striking out three batters while giving up only one free pass. He struggled in the final inning and reliever Andy Overholt came in to close out the game.
Overholt got the save and allowed one hit and struck out one Trojan batter. He also had a double in the game.
Two big hits really helped the Tigers in this one. Steve Davenport hit a two-run double in the second in inning to give the team a 2-0 lead. The other big hit came from Kaare Cigan who hit a two run single in the sixth inning to finish out the locals scoring.
"It was nice to get the win," Tiger Coach Dave Stamper said. "Caleb pitched a really nice game. He got tired at the end."
On Saturday Belleville split a double header with Livonia Franklin losing the first game 14-4 but winning the second contest 19-16.
"Franklin hit the ball well," he said. "I thought we hit a lot better in the second game. They were non-league games for us."
On Friday night the Tigers lost in nine innings to Wayne Memorial 4-3. The Zebras scored in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and third off a soft single.
Overholt got the loss after coming on in relief of Anthony White who pitched a strong five innings giving up three runs.
Belleville had a team total of seven hits in the game and Wayne had eight hits.
"It was a good game," he said. "We made a couple of mistakes that hurt us."
The locals opened the regular season on April 3 with a 5-3 win over the Romulus Eagles. Kennedy got the win for the Tigers.
"He pitched very well," Stamper said. "We had a number of doubles in that game."
Overholt, Kennedy and Josh Robackiewcz all had doubles for Belleville in the win.
The Tigers improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Mega Red. They will play tomorrow at the University of Michigan against the Lincoln Rails. It is a scheduled double header. Last year the two teams were scheduled to meet but due to bad weather the game was never made up.
Stamper said both he and his team are excited to be playing at the field at the University of Michigan.
"One of the dads works there and he was able to set it up," he said. "We have never played there before it should be exciting."
