As always, the show will be held in the Belleville High School Food Service Center at 501 W. Columbia, Belleville, MI.
The show is open both days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
More than 1,000 pieces of art will be on display in this annual student exhibit.
The Van Buren Public Schools and the Belleville Area Council for the Arts jointly sponsor the art show to recognize and encourage young artists in our community.
The Student Art Show is free and open to the public.
The artwork for the Student Art Show is selected under the supervision of the art teachers of Van Buren Schools.
The highlight of the art show is the selection of the student whose work merits the $1,000 scholarship provided by the Belleville Area Council for the Arts, a Scholarship awarded to the Belleville High School Senior whose portfolio of art is judged to be the best.
A portfolio presentation consists of at lease three works of art.
The judging is done by art professionals who have ties to our schools or community.
The judges will also award a $500 award to the single work that is selected as the "Best of Show."
In addition to the Scholarship and "Best of Show" competition, recognition awards are given for first, second and third place awards for each grade, seven through twelve.
All elementary students are given ribbons for their participation in the show.
Each year community leaders are invited to the show to make a personal selection for a "celebrity" certificate and a recognition ribbon.
The Belleville Area Council for the Arts raises money at a fund-raising Dessert Gala on the Saturday evening of the Art Show, Saturday, April 26, a reception held from 8:00 to 10:00 PM.
The Reception features selected desserts from some of the finer restaurants of our area with entertainment, a silent auction and door prizes and an opportunity to enjoy the art.
Tickets to the Dessert Gala are $20 and are available at the door.
To encourage greater community participation, student participants are provided vouchers to attend the Dessert Gala at a discounted price.
These vouchers offer discounted tickets to the student participants, their siblings and up to four parents or guardians.
The vouchers are provided through the Arts Council and distributed through the schools.
