By Dave Merchant, Staff Writer

Tiger girls' Coach Anthony Munoz said it was a close meet against Romulus.

"It was neck and neck until the mile relay," Munoz said. "We had a lot of points in the field events and then we fell behind. We didn't realize how close it was until the end."

Romulus Coach Wade Cook said it was a very close meet.

"It came right down to the mile relay," Cook said. "I didn't know which way the meet was going to turn. They had two 3,200-meter runners and we didn't have any. I almost threw a girl in just to grab a point."

The Eagles on the 1,600-meter relay in a time of four-minutes and twenty seconds. Belleville ran it in (4:43).

Belleville' Ivy Harrelson won the pole vault. Ashley Wartley was first in the 100-meter hurdles and Shakila Price won the shot (34-10 ?). The locals won the 800-meter relay (1:51).

The Tigers took first and second in the 1,600-meter run as well.

Romulus' Christeinne Linton won the long jump (18-5), the 100-meter dash (12.22), and the 300-meter hurdles (45.6). Brianna Shreve won the high jump (4-10). Tityana Lowe won the 400-meter run (1:02).

The Eagles won all the relays except the 400-meter relay.

Later in the week on Thursday Belleville fell to Woodhaven 79-54.

"Woodhaven's middle distance is great," Munoz said. "They have a state caliber 400-meter runner."

Price took first in the shot and discus for the Tigers. Wartley won the hurdles and the long jump.

Belleville and Romulus will compete on Saturday at the Ypsilanti April Showers. The Lady Tigers also had a meet early in the week on Tuesday at Dearborn High.
